Module 1: Introduction to Bowen Therapy

The first module of this course is an introduction to the wonderful method of Bowen Therapy. It includes a brief history and what it is comprised of, as well as some theories of how it may work. At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain what Bowen Therapy is
  • understand the history behind Bowen Therapy
  • explain some of the theories of how Bowen therapy may work

    Module 2: Promoting a healing environment

    The second module of this course covers how touch is significant in the healing process introduction to the wonderful method of Bowen Therapy. It includes an explanation of the holistic wheel of health and the many ways our health is influenced.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • understand the significance of touch in the healing process
  • explain why the body can lose its delicate balance
  • understand the various influences on our health

    Module 3: Bowen therapy preparation
    and client assessment

    The third module of this course outlines the basic equipment required for Bowen Therapy and how to perform a client assessment. It includes essential information about Bowen Therapy as well as contraindications.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • be familiar with what equipment is needed for Bowen Therapy
  • understand how to perform a client assessment
  • know essential information about Bowen Therapy
  • list the contraindications of Bowen Therapy

    Module 4: Useful information before the Bowen session

    Module4 covers the influence of nutrition on health, the various health conditions where Bowen Therapy can assist and questions that clients often ask before their first Bowen session. It also includes the benefits and positive effects of Bowen Therapy.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain why nutrition is crucial for health
  • list the health conditions where Bowen Therapy can assist
  • be aware of questions that clients may ask
  • understand the benefits and positive effects of Bowen Therapy

    Module 5: After the Bowen session

    Module5 of this course covers essential protocol for the Bowen therapist after the Bowen session, negative reactions and the healing crisis. It includes reasons why Bowen Therapy may not always result in success.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • Explain the essential protocol after the Bowen session
  • understand what is meant by negative reactions and the healing crisis
  • explain some of the reasons why Bowen therapy may not work so well sometimes
  • know the optimum conditions for Bowen therapy to work the best

    Module 6: Stress and psychological reactions

    Module6 of this course covers the meaning of stress and the role of Bowen Therapy. It includes common psychological reactions that clients may have after Bowen Therapy.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain what stress is and what it does to the body
  • understand how the Bowen method can relieve stress
  • explain some of the common psychological reactions to Bowen Therapy

    Module 7: Anatomical positions,
    directions and the Bowen move

    Module7 of this course covers anatomical position and directions of moves. It also includes an in-depth explanation of how to perform the basic Bowen move as well as information on 2-minute breaks, breathing and procedures.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain the anatomical position and various directions in reference to the human body
  • understand the three components of the Bowen move
  • perform the three components of the Bowen move
  • explain the significance of 2-minute breaks, client breathing during application of moves and procedures

    Module 8: Basic relaxation procedures:
    Lower Back Procedure

    Module8 of this course covers the first of the three Basic relaxation procedures, the Lower Back Procedure. It includes preparation before the procedure, an explanation of how to practically perform each of the moves of the procedure as well as health problems that may be assisted.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain when the Lower Back Procedure is performed
  • understand the preparation for the Lower Back Procedure
  • perform each of the moves of the Lower Back Procedure
  • list the health problems that can be assisted

    Module 9: Basic relaxation procedures:
    Upper and mid-back Procedure

    Module9 of this course covers the second of the three Basic relaxation procedures, the Upper and Mid-Back Procedure. It includes preparation and prerequisites for the procedure, an explanation of how to practically perform each of the moves of the procedure as well as health problems that may be assisted.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain when the Upper and Mid-Back Procedure is performed
  • understand preparation and prerequisites for the Upper and Mid-Back Procedure
  • perform each of the moves of the Upper and Mid-Back Procedure
  • list the health problems that can be assisted

    Module 10: Basic relaxation procedures:
    Neck and Shoulders Procedure

    Module10 of this course covers the third of the three Basic relaxation procedures, the Neck and Shoulders Procedure. It includes preparation and prerequisites for the procedure, an explanation of how to practically perform each of the moves of the procedure as well as health problems that may be assisted.

    At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  • explain when the Neck and Shoulders Procedure is performed
  • understand preparation and prerequisites for the Neck and Shoulders Procedure
  • perform each of the moves of the Neck and Shoulders Procedure
